European stocks stable at open after US rescue plan approved (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) - European shares steadied at the start of trading on Thursday after the US Senate approved a modified financial rescue package for the stricken US financial sector.
London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares edged up 0.08 percent to 4,963.47 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 dipped 0.21 percent to 5,794.10 points and in Paris the CAC 40 rose 0.21 percent to stand at 4,063.26.
