Kentucky Governor Honors Jade Esteban Estrada

Estrada joins other honorary colonels which include Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope, Joan Crawford, Mae West, Johnny Depp, Muhammad Ali and Pope John Paul II.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Estrada began his career in show business as a scratch vocalist for the Back Street Boys and as choreographer to television personality Charo. He has been seen on Comedy Central's "The Graham Norton Effect," "In the Life TV" on PBS and his Latin dance music can be heard on the Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning police drama "The Shield." Out Magazine calls him "the first gay Latin star."
"Most performers would be happy to have a fraction of Jade Esteban Estrada's career," states Marty Rosen of the Louisville Courier-Journal. Hector Saldana of the San Antonio Express-News calls him "a showbiz messiah." Roy Proctor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch calls him "a master entertainer."
In 2002, Estrada was awarded the Premio Estrella from LLEGO for outstanding accomplishment and visibility in the entertainment industry as an openly gay Latino and lent his voice to the "Being Out Rocks" CD compilation for the Human Rights Campaign with Sarah MacLachlan and Ani DiFranco.
In 2006, he was named Entertainer of the Year at the Family Tree Rainbow Awards in Tallahassee, Florida.
Estrada has most recently been known for his work as nationally touring solo theatre artist. He has toured with his productions of "ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 1 through 3, "Tortilla Heaven," "Pico de Gallo," "TransWorld! The Transgender History of the World," and "Gay Christian, Gay Muslim, Gay Jew."
In September, he debuted his solo musical ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 3 which won the award for Best Solo Performance and Best Original Music at the Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival for his portrayal of Mary Cheney, daughter of U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney.
Estrada recently performed in Lexington, Kentucky where he was the headlining act for the 2nd Annual Statewide Dinner for the Kentucky Fairness Alliance and also headlined "Seriously Funny" for Citizens for Equal Protection in Omaha, Nebraska.
